Why Community Matters More Than Perfect Weather

If you’ve lived in Houston longer than five minutes, you already know planning an outdoor event in May is basically a leap of faith. One minute it’s sunshine and patio weather. The next? Thunderstorms are rolling in like they personally took offense to your weekend plans.
And honestly… that’s kind of what makes Houston, Houston.
This weekend is supposed to be one of our favorite events of the year at Houston Bark Park Cinco de Barko. The vendors, the dogs, the splash zones, the music, the community, the chaos, the muddy paw prints that somehow end up on everyone. It’s become more than just an event to us over the years.
It’s a reminder of why we built this place in the first place.
Not just for daycare.
Not just for boarding.
Not just for grooming.
But for connection with our community.
For the dogs who drag their owners through the gates because they already know exactly where they are.For the clients who have become friends. For the staff who know every dog’s quirks, routines, and favorite nap spot. For the conversations that happen in parking lots long after pickup should have ended.
That’s the real heart behind Cinco de Barko.
Of course, with storms potentially rolling into Houston this weekend, we’re keeping a close eye on the weather and making decisions with safety first for our dogs, our team, our vendors, and our community.
Because while we love a good party, we love your dogs more.
We will officially be making the call on Friday at noon regarding whether Cinco de Barko will move to our rain date of May 16th due to weather, so stay tuned to our social channels and emails for updates.
And whether this weekend ends up looking like sunshine, mud puddles, rescheduling plans, or all of the above, one thing won’t change: Our community always shows up for each other. Honestly, that’s what we’re most proud of. Not the decorations. Not the themes. Not even the barkaritas. It’s the fact that somewhere along the way, Houston Bark Park became more than a place people drop their dogs off. It became a place people feel connected to.
And rain can’t really cancel that.
We’re crossing all paws for sunshine, but no matter what happens this weekend, we’re grateful for every single person, pup, employee, vendor, and family that continues to make this place feel like home.
