Fall in Houston doesn't come with sweater weather 🥴, but that doesn’t mean we can’t pretend the second the temperature drops below 80!

October is one of our favorite months to get outside with our dogs. From pumpkin patches and costume contests to local festivals and HBP’s own Howl-O-Week 😉, there are plenty of ways to make the most of the season with your pup.

Here are a few Houston area fall activities worth adding to your calendar!

Barktoberfest

One of Houston’s fluffiest fall events for dog lovers is back!

Barktoberfest, benefiting Houston Pets Alive!, takes place Saturday, October 10 from 2–6 PM at Home Run Dugout in Katy. The dog and familyfriendly festival includes costume contests, a DJ, photo booth, local vendors, food, raffles, a silent auction and plenty of pups.

Admission is free, although registration is required, and proceeds from purchases during the event help support Houston Pets Alive! and its work with at-risk animals.

Howl-O-Ween at Levy Park

If your dog has a costume, they deserve an audience!

Levy Park is bringing back its annual Howl-O-Ween Dog Parade & Costume Contest on October 25. The festivities kick off at 2 PM, with a pup parade and costume contest plus dog-focused vendors and prizes.

Whether your dog loves being the center of attention or would rather sit on the sidelines and judge everyone else's costume, it’s an easy way to enjoy Halloween together.

Take Your Pup to the Pumpkin Patch

Pumpkin patch pictures are even better with your pup! Old Time Christmas Tree Farm in Spring welcomes pets and offers pumpkins, fall photo ops, a corn maze, hayrides and more.

Grab a pumpkin, snap approximately 47 photos of your dog, and consider fall officially accomplished.

Tip: Not every Houston-area pumpkin patch allows pets (boooo 👎), so check before you go!

Sip & Stroll at Houston Arboretum

Enjoy Houston’s cooler fall weather with your best four legged drinking buddy!

The Houston Arboretum’s uocoming Sip & Stroll on November 6 from 5:30pm - 7:30pm invites pups and their humans to hit the trails together, stopping at beer stations along the way.

🕸️ Celebrate Howl-O-Week at HBP!

This year, we're doing Halloween a little differently. Instead of hosting our traditional large Howl-O-Ween event, we're spreading the fun throughout an entire week at Houston Bark Park!

Monday: Pups Pick-a-Pumpkin

Every pup gets to visit the HBP pumpkin patch and take home a festive bandana.

Tuesday: Terrifyingly Cute Costume Contest

Send your pup to daycare dressed to impress! We'll snap their official entry photo and let the HBP community vote for their favorite. The winner takes home an HBP prize!

Wednesday: Bobbing for Bones

Add a little Halloween enrichment to your pup's day! Dogs will hunt, sniff and search for treats or toys during a spooky enrichment activity.

Add on: $10

Thursday: Trick-or-Treat

Every pup goes home with a Halloween treat bag complete with a special Howl-O-Ween toy. Keep an eye on that bag—some will have Golden Tickets hidden inside for free daycare days and HBP prizes!

Friday: A Frightfully Good Deal

End Howl-O-Week with more days to play.

Buy 3 daycare days and get 1 daycare day FREE!

Five days. Five ways to celebrate. Plenty of tired pups.

🎄Something Merry Is Coming...

You may have noticed our annual Howl-O-Ween Bash looks a little different this year! While we’re celebrating Halloween with a full Howl-O-Week, we’ve got something else up our sleeve for later this year. 👀

We can’t share all the details just yet, but let’s just say there may be a little extra holiday magic coming to HBP this December.  Stay tuned! We think it’ll be worth the wait!

Until then, grab those costumes and get ready for Howl-O-Week at HBP! 🎃
