At Houston Bark Park & Daycare, our mission goes beyond playtime and belly rubs (though those do take up a lot of our days 🤔). It’s about creating a safe, enriching, tail wagging environment where every pup feels at home, and that starts with the people leading the pack.

We sat down with our Operations Director, General Manager, and Location Managers from Maxie, Shepherd, and Energy Corridor to learn more about their love for dogs, their favorite regulars, and the moments that make their work so rewarding. Spoiler alert, it's touching 💕.

🐾 Casey, Operations Director (10 years with HBP)

Why did you originally want to work with dogs?

 “Because I love them 😍.”

Who is one of your favorite dogs and why?

“Callie girl at the Maxie location because she’s one of the best dogs I have ever met.”

(High praise from someone who has met A LOT of amazing pups!)

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

“The most rewarding part of the job is watching those pups that come in a little scared, then realize that this is the best place ever and they just light up and have fun.”

Favorite event?

“Howl-o-ween is my favorite event because of the dog costumes. They go all out.”

If you’ve ever seen our Howl-o-ween celebration, you know — the costumes are next level.

People in costumes, including mac & cheese and skeleton, walk dogs in a park. A wagon with a small costumed dog. Blue sky, sunny day.

🐶 Patricia, General Manager (8 years with HBP)

Why did you originally want to work with dogs? “I was looking for a more fulfilling career, so I jumped at the opportunity to work with man’s best friend.”

Who is one of your favorite dogs?

“That’s like asking if you have a favorite child! However, I choose Star Lab because she exudes pure love and happiness.”

Black Labrador with grey muzzle gazes into the camera, sitting on green grass. Bright eyes and calm, focused expression.
Star really does exude pure love!

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

“Client compliments are the most rewarding because it’s proof that our hard work in providing a fun and safe environment pays off.”

It’s all about knowing that both pups and their parents feel the difference.

Favorite event?

“Cinco de Barko because we get to meet the dog parents in a fun environment.”

🐾 Ahtziry, Maxie Location Manager (4+ years with HBP)

Why did you originally want to work with dogs?

“I love dogs and working in an environment where dogs come in every day happy and excited to have fun is amazing.”

If you’ve visited Maxie, you’ve seen that excitement firsthand.

Rumy is one very important pup!

Who is one of your favorite dogs?

“My favorite dog at Maxie is Rumi the dachshund because she gets just as excited as I do when she comes in for daycare. Her morning routine to come in the office and say hi to everyone and then run straight to daycare is the cutest thing ever.”

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job? “Being able to have fun while also caring and making a safe environment for the pups to enjoy themselves.”

Fun and safety — that balance is the heart of what we do.

Favorite event? “My favorite event has been the first Smalls Meet. I love the littles and seeing all of them running and playing together — plus more weenie dogs was great :)”

More weenie dogs? Say less.

🐶 Danielle, Shepherd Location Manager (10 years with HBP)

Why did you originally want to work with dogs? “I wanted to learn more about dogs and fell in love with working with them.”

A "tail" as old as time!

Who is one of your favorite dogs? “Star Lab at the Shepherd location. She is the sweetest girl and has no bad thoughts. Star lifts my mood the minute she arrives with her tail wagging!”

That's right, Star was named twice!

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job? “The most rewarding part of the job is watching staff and I build relationships with the client dogs. We learn what they like and don’t like, their play style, and get lots of love!”

Star is flattered by all of the love!

🐾 Aaron, Energy Corridor Location Manager (5 years with HBP)

Why did you originally want to work with dogs? “I feel I’ve always understood dogs and they’ve always been a part of my life.”

When dogs have always been part of your story, working with them just makes sense.

Who is one of your favorite dogs? “It’s hard to say if I have a favorite, but if I had to choose one I’m quite fond of, I’d say Margaux, a B.C. mix. She takes every step I take in the yard.”

A loyal shadow in the play yard — what more could you ask for?

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job? “One of the most rewarding parts of this job is the interaction and responsibilities I have with each dog that comes to my facility. I want to make sure every dog is set up for success. I think, ‘What if this was my dog?’”

Great answer, Aaron!

Favorite event? “My favorite event may be the romps we have on the weekends. It’s very cool to see non-client dogs and parents check out what we are about and offer.”

Our meetups and romps are always a blast!
