What Happens Inside HBP When Your Dog Is Here

We get it. Dropping off your best friend can sometimes feel a little like sending a kid to their first day of school. You see the wagging tails at the front door and the tired, happy pup at pickup, but what actually happens in the hours between?

Transparency is our middle name (well, actually it's "Bark," but you get the point 🥁). Here’s a look at what actually happens inside HBP and why consistency (hello, Unlimited Membership) makes such a difference.

Morning Check Ins

The day doesn't just "start," it’s curated. Every dog that walks through our doors undergoes a check-in with the team. Even if your dog has been coming for years, we assess their "vibe" that specific morning. Even our regulars are reassessed daily. Dogs aren’t robots, and we assess their "vibe" every day. Are they extra spicy today? A bit sleepy? Looking for a wrestling partner? This allows us to tailor their day from the moment they clip off the leash.

Because they can’t speak to us (in English), we heavily rely on knowing each dog individually to know more about them.  Changes in behavior, whether abrupt or gradual, often indicate a deeper insight into their mind and health.

Thoughtful Group Placement

Dogs are never grouped randomly. It’s not just about size — it’s also about personality, play style, and setting them up for success. We consider:

• Energy output

• Play style (wrestler, chaser, gentle socializer, observer)

• Age and maturity

• Confidence level

• Existing friendships/frenemies 

• Play yard preferences

The more frequently a dog attends, the more refined their placement becomes.

Nap Logistics

Physical exhaustion is great, but overstimulation is not. A dog that plays for 8 hours straight can become cranky if they do not self regulate with taking breaks.

Every day, we have a nap time period where dogs are encouraged to relax. We play calming music and turn off the lights to promote napping. This contributes to a happier dog and safer play. Dogs often display crankiness through snapping and having shorter tolerances for other energetic pups.

Cleaning & Sanitation Protocol

While dogs have fun, we clean, clean, and clean some more.

Our protocol includes:

• Continuous spot cleaning

• Sanitizing play surfaces (indoor and outdoor)

• Disinfecting high-touch areas

• Deep cleaning throughout the day

• Full facility sanitation at closing

Consistency in attendance also supports stronger immune resilience, especially when paired with our rigorous cleaning standards.

Organization, Double Checks & Animal Welfare

A big part of caring for dogs well is being organized. While less exciting than our bubble cannons, operational organization is one of the most important things we offer to the dogs in our care. Behind the scenes, our team spends time double-checking and signing off on the details that matter most. That includes verifying:

• Feeding instructions

• Medication schedules

• Cleaning tasks

One of the ways we show how much we love the dogs is by running a well-organized, well-run business. Systems and double checks ensure that nothing slips through the cracks. When meals are confirmed, medications are carefully administered, and cleaning protocols are consistently followed, we’re actively promoting animal welfare in ways that might not always be visible, but make a huge difference for every dog in our care and to their pawrents.
